Level Devlog 1.1.2

My first milestone responsibilities are understanding the challenges and themes and making serval plans with outlines of our level. I immediately understood that we all collectively wanted to make this game based on a house as we browsed around and saw most cat videos failing in someone's house. I took it upon myself to introduce a living room with a kitchen connected as a level. I plan on introducing this level as our prototype by slowly and surely creating the right feeling of a low poly environment. With that said, in the first week of October in class I assigned myself the responsibility of providing this level as a concept and providing visuals so we can collectively understand the scaling of the environment.

Firstly, I had to understand how big we had intended our cat to be, So within the level, I inserted a cylinder with the intention of it being a coffee cup/mug later once fully designed. Within the scene I stacked the cups to understand how big the cat is gonna be for this level so I increased the size of the environment to the cat's respected view. As the player you are going to be small and able to places that a regular-sized player controller may not think of going.

The challenge I had to think of was what could a living room look like in the style of low poly. I browsed the internet for real living rooms and brought the designs to Unity to see if I liked them. And turns out that very simplified designs look well in a room that is in the style of low poly. So for example creating a table with legs was a simple setup, but determining how I wanted it to be and imagining how could cat interact with this table was the hard part as I had to take inspiration from social media platforms like YouTube or Instagram to see how cats maneuver around these types of areas.

Overall so far I'm excited about what's to come together for our game once we start finalizing everything. In the upcoming weeks my next milestone is to start creating environmental assets I'm going to skim the internet of cat videos and see what exactly some environmental assets cats majorly engage with such as a scratching post or a litter box to add volume to the cat's retrospective view. As well as touch up on the majority of assets we have already within the prototype level.
